Things To Do - Kakadu NP, Litchfield NP and Arnhem Land

What are the things you simply must see and do in Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park and Arnhem Land? Here is the place where ONLY THE BEST make the list!

Travellers just like you offer their views on the best things to do, attractions, activities and tours in the Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park and Arnhem Land Regions. Benefit from their experiences and add yours below.

Please add any relevant information that will help other travellers find and experience your favourite!

We'll start things off with one of our favourites, then jump in below and share yours too!

Swimming in the Refreshing Waterholes, Litchfield National Park

Walker-Creek-Litchfield-National-Park Okay, it may have had a little to do with the 46 degree celcius September days, but we just loved all the waterholes in Litchfield National Park.

Located 100km south-west of Darwin, Litchfield NP can be accessed all year round along a sealed road via Batchelor. It is enjoyed for its bushwalking (many 1-3km tracks), 4 x 4 Driving, camping, picnic facilities and magnetic termite mounds. But the most popular activity would have to be swimming!

While there we swam at all the major swimming spots: Wangi Falls, Florence Falls, Tjaynera Falls, Buley Rockhole and Walker Creek.

Walker Creek, Litchfield National Park

Wangi Falls is the most easily accessible swimming spot, and therefore tends to get fairly crowded, especially when the bus tours arrive around lunchtime. After a 1.7km walk on a 40+ degree celcius day we had Tjaynera Falls to ourselves, and loved the number of interesting swimming spots at Buley Rockhole.

But our favourite is Walker Creek. Here you walk along a track which winds past 8 walk-in camping/swimming areas. The first swimming area, Rocky Falls is approx 600m from the carpark, and you'll find one every 200m or so, after that. Even during peak season, you'll usually have one of these holes all to yourself, and it's definitely worth the walk.

NOTE: If visiting during the wet-season, most of the 4WD tracks in Litchfield NP are closed, and some waterholes, including Walker Creek become unsafe for swimming after heavy rains.
