Things to do - South Australian Wine Country

Barossa-Valley-Vineyard

What are the things you simply must see and do in the South Australian Wine Country? Here is the place where ONLY THE BEST make the list!

Travellers just like you offer their views on the best things to do, attractions, activities and tours in the South Australian Wine Country. Benefit from their experiences and add yours below. Please tell us why you liked it so much, and add any relevant information that will
help other travellers find and experience your favourite!

We've kicked things off with two of our favourites, so jump in below and share yours now!

Burra Heritage Passport

Redruth-Gaol-Burra Burra is a beautiful, classy and historic town situated in the stunning surrounds of the Clare Valley Wine Region.

The Burra Heritage Passport is a system where you purchase a key at the Burra Visitor and Information Centre that allows you entry to dozens of historic sites around this beautiful, well preserved
old mining town ($30 per family).

It is great to have the freedom to explore the rich history of the town at you own pace on this self guided tour. A pamphlet and good signage allows for easy navigation and understanding of the rich history of this area.

Some of the more interesting sites to visit are Redruth Gaol (setting for the movie Breaker Morant), the Old Burra Mine, Police Lockup, miners dugouts and the Old Brewery Cellars.

These sites are really well preserved and have terrific access, free of the regulation that seems to be so much a part of tourism these days.

The township of Clare is about a half hour drive away and has a good but expensive caravan park. Burra Caravan Park is smaller, very quaint and is very handy to town.

The Burra Heritage Passport is great value and comes highly recommended by all in our clan.

Barossa Farmers Market

Barossa-Farmers-Market Want to experience the culture of the Barossa in a low stress and authentic way?

Cool, casual and slightly eccelectic, the Barossa Farmers Market captures the essence and European/German heritage of the magnificent Barossa.

I am not a lover of shopping or markets (truthfully, I was dragged here by my better half!), but these markets are different. Authentic and unusual, they are the only markets, apart from Mindil Markets in Darwin, that I would recommend or return to.

Great fresh produce and really good tucker make it a great way to start off a saturday morning with style and ease.

Situated in Angaston, it is a pleasant drive from Nuriootpa and Tanunda. Final tip is to take some of the great produce up to nearby Mengler's Hill and devour it whilst enjoy stunning views over the Barossa Valley. Classic!

What's the Best Thing You've Done While Travelling In this Region?

What is the one thing you always tell people about? The activity you'd love to do again, and encourage others not to miss? Share it here...

Name the Activity (eg Climbed Mt Kosciuszko or Pt Labbatt Sealion Tour)
