The Western Austalian Goldfields are packed full of great things to do and see. From the great pioneering history and architecture, to the great scenery and amazing mines.

We've kicked things off with one of our favourites, so jump in below and share yours now!

Kalgoorlie Super Pit

Kalgoorlie-Super-Pit Kalgoorlie-Super-Pit This is one massive hole in the ground. Access to the viewing platform where the photos are taken from is free with heaps of parking for cars and big rigs.

As you stand and gaze at the sheer scale of this now open cut gold mine, you will be blown away as you see the labyrinth of old hand dug tunnels now being exposed. The little dots in the second photo are 300 tonne trucks! They look like ants in this giant hole.

Kalgoorlie has heaps of things to do. The Mining Hall of Fame just to the north of town is worth a visit but at $80 for a family is not overly cheap. It does however, include (among other things) a tour of an old underground mine which is worthwhile.

Be sure to spend some time in an around the township of Kalgoorlie and enjoy the richness of the community, the history and the "vibe" of this boomtown. There are plenty of caravan parks, but being a mining town, none are cheap, and most are not very flash.

What's the Best Thing You've Done While Travelling In this Region?

What is the one thing you always tell people about? The activity you'd love to do again, and encourage others not to miss? Share it here...

Name the Activity (eg Climbed Mt Kosciuszko or Pt Labbatt Sealion Tour)
